Kathmandu, Nepal: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the only constitutional right watchdog of the country, has on Monday urged the Nepal government to save the life of agitating senior orthopedic surgeon of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) Dr Govinda KC.

Issuing a press statement, the NHRC has urged the government to address the demands of Dr. KC through the talks. The government should be sensitive towards protecting one’s life notwithstanding the form of protest, The NHRC has stated in the statement.

The NHRC has made the urge in the mean time when Dr. KC’s fast-into death strike has entered into 15th day on Monday. The government had formed a talk team on Saturday, but the team has did nothing to end the strike despite meeting with the talk team formed on behalf of Dr. KC.

The Commission has closely been monitoring the health status of Dr KC, ; a letter was also written to the Ministry of Health on Sunday urging to pay attention to his health condition, the NHRC has stated in the statement.

The NHRC has also stated further in the statement that its monitoring found that the striking doctor’s heartbeat is fluctuating and immune power is also decreasing.
