Kathmandu, Nepal, August 9, 2022: The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central bank of Nepal, has taken steps towards issuing its own digital currency.
As a study conducted over the issue of issuing its own digital currency showed the feasibility, the NRB has initiated process to draft the necessary laws to this effect.
It is said that drafted bill will be sent to the government to table in parliament to make the necessary law. The NRB had also mentioned its plan through the monitory policy as well.
The NRB Act 2002 has no provision for the central bank to create a digital currency. As the act allows only for paper notes and coins, the law related to the currency is most for the NRB to issue the digital currency.
