Guwahati, July 28 : After published the first part draft of the updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) by including names of 1.90 crore people out of the total 3.29 crore applicants of Assam recognising them as legal citizens of India, the NRC state coordinator office is now preparing to publish the final draft of NRC.
Assam is going to witness a historical moment on July 30 as the final draft of the updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) to be published on that day.
Ahead of the final draft of NRC publication, adequate security measures in the state have been taken by the Union Home Ministry.
The Union Home Ministry had already sent over 22,000 central paramilitary troops in order to beef up security in Assam and adjoining states to ensure peace and maintain law and order.
Security has been beefed up in all NRC Seva Kendras (NSKs).
Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Kuladhar Saikia said that, Assam police have already gone for sectoral plans as districts of the state have been divided in different sectors and zones.
“We have seen the sensitive areas and accordingly security forces have been deployed. Numbers of companies have arrived in the state and we are deploying them in different areas,” Kuladhar Saikia said.
The Assam DGP further said that, if any will take law in hand then Assam police will take stern action against them.
On the other hand, a senior official of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) said that, a large number of companies have arrived in Assam to maintain law and order situation ahead of final draft of NRC publication.
“The Union Home Ministry had sent the companies to maintain law and order situation. I appeal to the people of Assam that don’t believe the rumours spread out through Whatsapp, Twitter, Facebook,” the CAPF official said.
On the other hand, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on July 26 night had reviewed law and order situation and held a crucial meeting with all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) of all districts in Guwahati.
Sonowal reviewed with the DCs and SPs the law and order situation as well as measures being taken to tackle any untoward situation.
The Assam CM had ordered the DCs and SPs to maintain peace in their concerned districts and to take adequate measures to tackle any eventuality.
Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia, Home Commissioner of Assam government LS Changson, state NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela and other top officials of Assam police, state home department also present in the meeting.
Taking with India Today, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal said that, the meeting was held with the senior officials of districts of Assam and also DCs, SPs ahead the publication of final draft of NRC.
“With help of the people of Assam, we want to maintain peace and tranquillity in the districts of Assam. The NRC draft will be published as per direction of the Supreme Court on July 30 and this should be a historic moment for the people of Assam. To make NRC reality, the people of Assam have extended their whole support, cooperation. We are grateful to the people of Assam that they have always been cooperative. We are hopeful,
everybody going to participate in this particular noble endeavour,” Sonowal
said.
