CIB Arrests Aadil Alam and Mehboob Alam For Spot-fixing

 Kathmandu, Nepal, January 23, 2022: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested two Nepali cricketers- Mehboob Alam and Mohammad Aadil Alam (Aadil Ansari)- on charges of their involvement in spot-fixing at the Nepal Twenty20 League on Monday.


The first-ever franchise league held between December 24, 2022 and January 11, 2023 was dragged into controversies after revelations of spot-fixing. The first ever cricket event was organized by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

Following the revelation of spot-fixing, National Sports Council (NSC), the apex sports authority of the country, and the CIB were investigating over the spot-fixing allegations. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has also been undertaking a separate investigation. 

All-rounder Aadil Ansari and Mehboob Alam have been arrested from Rajbiraj and Biratnagar respectively and being brought to Kathmandu for further investigation. 

According to the CIB a total of 10 people have been indicted in the case. It is said that two more Nepali nationals and six foreign nationals have been indicated in the spot-fixing scam. The CIB has launched hunt operations to arrest the absconding suspects.
