Kathmandu, Nepal: The Supreme Court (SC) the apex Court of the country, is going to hear from the amicus curiae today whether the local level elections should be held under the existing set-up or a new one.
The SC has scheduled amicus curiae in the mean time when the major political parties are mulling to hold the local body election in old structures.
It is said that senior Advocates senior Advocates Sushil Panta, Bipulendra Chakrabarti and Prem Bahadur Khadka from Nepal Bar Association (NBA), the umbrella organization of the Nepalese lawyers, and Shailendra Kumar Dahal, Purna Man Shakya and Bishwa Kant Mainali from the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) are going to offer their opinions over the issue.
A division bench of Justices Cholendra Sumsher Rana and Hari Krishna Karki had taken the decision to seek amicus briefs from the NBA and the SCBA on last Wednesday.
Challenging to the preparations of the government and the major parties, advocates Chandra Kanta Gyawali, Parshuram Upadhyaya, Liladhar Upadhyaya, Bimal Gyawali, Bijaya Gautam and Shashi Karki had filed a case demanding that the local elections should be held under the existing structure but not under old one.
