Kathmandu, Nepal, July 18, 2022: The scheduled plan to administer the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to children between five and 11 years has been disturbed in several districts including in Kathmandu Valley due to the lack of syringes.

The Ministry of Health and Population failed to supply syringes as per the requirements to the district health office. Not only the lack of syringes but also the negligence played the role to disturb the scheduled plan to administer the COVID-19 vaccine.

Though the first phase of the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 for children between five and 11 years was launched from June 23 after Nepal received around 2.2 million pediatric doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, it is not completed.

It is said that only about 2.2 million children of the said age group were inoculated so far. Nepal require two types of syringes to administer a paediatric dose of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine—a 0.2ml syringe for vaccine administration and a 2ml syringe for vaccine mix-up with diluent.
