Kathmandu, Nepal, December 28, 2021:The government has put on hold its plan to vaccinate children aged 12-17 with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine due to the shortage of syringes.  

Though the regular campaign to vaccinate people with Vero Cell, AstraZeneca, Moderna and Janssen vaccines is continued, it would be stopped at anytime soon if syringes were not managed immediately. 

According to Sagar Dahal, chief of the National Immunization Program, the plans to roll out the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was put on hold due to a lack of 0.3ml syringes. However, A 0.5ml auto-disable syringes used for other vaccines are in stock with the government.    

As Nepal had received 664,560 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines from the United States of America through the COVAX facility, the government had been planning to vaccinate children aged 12-17 in eight districts including the three districts of the Kathmandu Valley from Tuesday. 

It is said that it would take at least one week to receive yringes under the COVAX facility.
