Kathmandu, Nepal, September 28, 2023: Indra Jatra is being celebrated as a special festival in some districts, particularly in Kathmandu, valley on Thursday.
On the occasion of this festival, the government has given a public holiday in Kathmandu Valley to celebrate the festival.
Indra Jatra festival that falls every year on the day of Bhadra Shukla Chaturdashi used to be celebrated mostly in the three districts of Kathmandu valley-Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur.
On the occasion of Indra Jatra, devotees used to worship the living goddess Kumari after erecting a lingo, a sacred wooden pole, in front of Hanumanthodka on Bhadra shukla Dwadashi with religious processions.
The eight-day festival is dedicated to Lord Indra – the god of rain. On the occasion, various ceremonies and processions used to be take place during the festival.
