Rhinoceros Census kicks off After Six Years

Kathmandu, Nepal, March 23, 2021: The government has started census of the rhinoceros population after six years. Census of one-horned rhinos kicked off amid a ceremony organized in Sauraha, Chitwan on Monday.

Officials from the Department of National Park and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC) and experts are mobilized for the census of the rhinoceros population. According to the DNPWC spokesperson Hari Bhadra Acharya, the census process was started from Ramauli Pratappur area of Parsa National Park. 

It is said that rhino count will take place in Chitwan-Parsa Complex that includes Chitwan National Park and Parsa National Park In the first phase. The complex has been divided into 19 blocks to ensure that the same rhino cannot be counted time and again. 

Inaugurating the census Minister for Forests and Environment Prem Bahadur Ale said that rhinoceros have an immense contribution in Nepal's tourism sector.
