Kathmandu, Nepal, September 22, 2020: A veteran Mountaineer  Ang Rita Sherpa, who made the world record by climbing the Mt Everest 10 times without bottled oxygen, has died at age 72 on Monday. 

Sherpa, who is known by the epithet of Snow Leopard, breathed his last in his sleep at his Jorpati of Kathmandu based home, family members have said.  Sherpa lately was suffering from brain and liver related ailments.

Sherpa, a native of Thamo village in Solukhumbu district, had first stood atop the world’s tallest mountain in 1983 and last in 1996 without supplemental bottled oxygen. 

He was recognized as the only person on the planet to have climbed Everest 10 times without supplemental oxygen by the Guinness World Records.
