Kathmandu, Nepal, June 6, 2022: Every year on June 7th, World Food Safety Day used to be celebrated to highlight the importance of healthy eating habits. The Day was observed globally with the theme of ‘Safer food, Better health,’

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), this day is observed to ‘bring attention to and mobilize action to prevent, detect, and manage food-borne risks and increase human health.

However, this valued day seems little known in Nepal. No significant program was organized from government to private sectors to mark the day as per the theme set by the WHO.

Issuing a statement the WHO has stated that the campaign emphasizes the importance of a holistic approach to the food system for improved health in the long run and to prevent food-borne diseases.

Food safety should be a top priority for everyone to be healthy and productive, the statement issued in the sign of Dr. Naoko Yamamoto, WHO's Assistant Director-General for Universal Health Coverage/Healthier Populations, states. This will also relieve the strain on healthcare systems, reads the statement.
