Guwahati, July 27 : After published the first part draft of the updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) by including names of 1.90 crore people out of the total 3.29 crore applicants of Assam recognising them as legal citizens of India, the NRC state coordinator office is now preparing to publish the final draft of NRC.

Assam is going to witness a historical moment on July 30 as the final draft of the updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) to be published on that day.

Ahead of the final draft of NRC publication, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday night had reviewed law and order situation and held a crucial meeting with all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) of all districts in Guwahati.

Sonowal reviewed with the DCs and SPs the law and order situation as well as measures being taken to tackle any untoward situation.

The Assam CM had ordered the DCs and SPs to maintain peace in their concerned districts and to take adequate measures to tackle any eventuality.

Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia, Home Commissioner of Assam government LS Changson, state NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela and other top officials of Assam police, state home department also present in the meeting.

Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal said that, the meeting was held with the senior officials of districts of Assam and also DCs, SPs ahead the publication of
final draft of NRC.

“With help of the people of Assam, we want to maintain peace and tranquillity in the districts of Assam. The NRC draft will be published as per direction of the Supreme Court on July 30 and this should be a historic moment for the people of Assam. To make NRC reality, the people of Assam have extended their whole support, cooperation. We are grateful to the people of Assam that they have always been cooperative. We are hopeful, everybody going to participate in this particular noble endeavour,” Sonowal said.

Sonowal further said that, nobody needs to be panicked if their names do not appear in the final draft as opportunity will be provided them for claim and objections.
