Guwahati, July 25 : Assam flood situation has remained grim as around 35 lakh people of 18 out of 33 districts in the state are still affected.
One more person has died in the current deluge taking death toll mounted to 78.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), one person drowned at Gauripur area in flood-hit Dhubri district on Thursday.
Around 35 lakh people of 18 districts of the state are still affected in the current flood.
On the other hand, following incessant rains in some parts of Lower Assam district and Bhutan, the water level of several rivers have increased and flood waters submerged more areas in many Lower Assam districts.
The administration has issued high alert in Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Nalbari, Chirang, Baksa districts following the release of excess waters from the Kuricchu Hydropower Plant reservoirs in Kuricchu river in Bhutan.
According to the ASDMA, over 11.12 lakh are affected alone in Barpeta distict, while 6.47 lakh people in Dhubri, 4.65 lakh in Morigaon, 2.58 lakh in Kokrajhar, 2.52 lakh in Bongaigaon, 2.49 lakh in South Salmara, 1.90 lakh affected in Goalpara district.
2753 villages and 1,30,383 hectares of crop land are still under water.
Over 1.95 lakh flood affected people have taken shelter in 833 relief camps set up by the administration.
On the other hand, 208 wild animals including 18 rhinos have died in Kaziranga National Park in the current deluge.
The forest guards and locals have found more bodies of the wild animals died in the park during the deluge.
According to the park authority, 17 rhinos, 115 hog deer, 18 wild boar, 12 sambar, one elephant, seven swamp deer, two water buffalo, three porcupine were drowned in flood waters in the park.
16 hog deer and 1 sambar were died in vehicle hit, while the wild animals have been forced to move to neighbouring hill areas in Karbi Anglong district following the flood.
On the other hand, one rhino and 10 hog deer were died in other reasons in the national park during the current flood.
The forest department, CWRC and the locals have rescued 69 wild animals including three rhino calves, 57 hog deer, one baby elephant, two swamp deer, one sambar and five other animals from the park and adjoining areas.
The flood situation in the park has gradually improved but 15 forest camps in the national park are still under water.
