Guwahati : At least three wild jumbo including a calf were died when a speedy passenger train rammed into a herd of elephants in Assam's Nagaon district on Friday night.
The incident took place at Patiapam near Kampur in the middle Assam district.
Local villagers had found the body of panchyderm on Saturday morning.
According to the reports, a Dibrugarh bound speedy train hit the three wild elephants while a herd of elephants tried to cross the railway tracks.
It is the third incident in past two weeks while speedy train hit elephants in the state.
A top official of Assam forest department said that, at least 11 elephants were killed in the state in past weeks.
Last week, three elephants were died at Jogijan area in Hojai district when the Dibrugarh bound Vivek Express hit them.
Meanwhile, Assam forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma urged the Railway ministry to take appropriate measures in railway tracks to protect wild animals.
Over 300 wild elephants killed in the north eastern Indian state in different mishaps in past eight years.
