Guwahati: After publishing the first draft of the updated National Register of Citizens (NRC), the Supreme Court has directed the Registrar General of India (RGI), the State Coordinator of NRC to publish the final draft of NRC by June 30.

While the Supreme Court has already given a deadline to publish the final draft of NRC, the State Coordinator of NRC may be missed the deadline set by the apex court.

Sources said that, the centre is likely to move the Supreme Court, requesting it to extend the NRC final draft publication deadline.

The Centre would likely to request the apex court to extend the publication date due to flood situation in the state as the verification process have reportedly been affected in many NRC Seva Kendras.

Meanwhile, State Coordinator of NRC Prateek Hajela denied to any comment.

Earlier, a Supreme Court bench comprising justices Ranjan Gogoi and R F Nariman had directed the Registrar General of India (RGI) and the State Coordinator of NRC to publish the final draft on June 30.
