 Kathmandu, Nepal, March 28, 2023: Responding to the request of the Indian government, the Department of Immigration (DoI) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has instructed all security agencies to be on high alert in the Nepal-India border area to prevent Amritpal Singh, a radical preacher from Punjab, India, suspecting that he could flee to a third country using Nepali territory either on his own passport or a fake passport.


Indian Embassy in Kathmandu had written a letter to the DoI on Sunday seeking help in stopping Khalistan separatist Singh from fleeing to a third country from Nepal. Indian security agencies have a saying that Singh had reached Uttarakhand and could enter Nepal from the border area of western Nepal to flee to a third country.

Indian security agencies have been launching a massive manhunt against Singh for is campaigning to create a separate country called Khalistan in India. Singh is believed as the head of an organization called Waris Punjab De. 

As the Khalistan supporters had also staged demonstration in London of UK and San Francisco of USA supporting the movement of Singh, the Indian police have been arresting many Sikh community members from all over the country in suspicion of their association with Khalistan supporters. 

In recent days, the Indian government has also blocked the internet within the Punjab state border to prevent eruption of violence.

The police started action against Amritpal’s group after it attacked the Ajnala police office in Amritsar and freed their aide from custody. A dispute flared up after the Indian army forcibly entered the Golden Temple, a holy place of the Sikh faith in Amritsar, the capital of the Indian state of Punjab on June 6, 1984. After the incident, the separatist movement was launched demanding separate country for the Sikhs in India.
