Kathmandu, Nepal: At least 1,344 people have died in the flood in the Bhotekoshi River area of Rasuwa, according to the latest update from Nepal Police.
Nepal Police released the figures in its flood search and rescue update on Saturday morning. The data covers the situation up to 5 a.m. Saturday.
Police said the bodies recovered so far include 52 boys, 33 girls, 269 women and 489 men. The authorities have also recovered partial human remains in 501 cases.
A total of 4,898 people are still missing, according to the police update. Search teams are continuing to look for people who have not yet been located.
Police said security personnel have rescued 8,631 people affected by the flood so far.
The disaster has also affected police personnel. According to Nepal Police, 25 police personnel are missing and 65 police employees have been affected.
Nepal Police said 7,912 personnel have been deployed for search, rescue and relief work in the affected areas.
The number of deaths and missing people could change as search teams recover more bodies and authorities collect and verify information from the affected areas.
