Kathmandu, Nepal, March 27, 2023: Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Narayankaji Shrestha has said that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the proposed Kathmandu-Raxaul railway project would be prepared within a month.
Nepal would receive the report within a month after the study is completed of the proposed Kathmandu-Raxaul railway project, DPM Shrestha said on Monday amid a press conference to make clear about the progress made so far since he assumed the office in last December.
India has informed us that the DPR of the proposed Kathmandu-Raxaul railway will be prepared within a month, Shrestha said.
Nepal and India had signed in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on October 8, 2021 for the study of proposed Kathmandu-Raxaul railway. According to the MoU, the DPR of the railway project has to be prepared by India on its own cost through its own company.
India has already sent a team to work in Nepal o prepare the DPR of the project. However, the company has yet to submit report though goal was set earlier to complete within 18 months.
The preliminary report prepared by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has stated that the length of the proposed Raxaul-Kathmandu railway would be 136 km. The proposed railway project is proposed to build through Nijgarh to Khokna, which would become about a 40 km section and the proposed railway will have a tunnel and about 35 bridges.
During the function, minister Shrestha also claimed that an action plan has already been initiated to install Nepali language embossed number plates to vehicles. I have been holding discussions with the relevant agencies for the same, Minister Shrestha said.
