Kathmandu, Nepal: Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH)’s senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC began his ninth fast-unto-death strike forwarding four points including the demand to approve the proposed medical education bill from the ongoing session of parliament.
Dr KC announced his ninth hunger strike claiming that the government did not seem serious towards meeting its own commitment to reform the medical sector in Nepal. Earlier on September 19 Dr. KC had announced the postponement of strike for a week.
While announcing his ninth hunger strike, Dr. KC put forth a four-point demands that include endorsement of the Nepal Medical Education Bill from the current House session, impeachment motion against the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Chief Lok Man Singh Karki and Commissioner Raj Narayan Pathak and implementation of the past agreements signed with him.
Though the government has introduced the Bill in the Parliament, we feel that that it would not be approved until and unless we exert pressure to the government, Dr. KC said in the press conference. During the press conference he also said that would not withdraw his strike this time until the government addresses his demands through action.
