The government of Nepal has not only barred South African nationals from entering the country citing fears of the spread of the new variant of COVID-19 but also cautioned one and all to adopt precautionary measures. However, the concerned experts have warned that the measures taken by the government would not sufficient to stop to enter the new variant of COVID-19 in Nepal.
According to the experts, there should be strong vigil in the bordering points to neighboring India and Tribhuvan International Airport, the country’s sole international airport by setting up a special desk with a medical team.
They have also a suggestion that not only the visitors from South Africa, but also the tourists visiting Nepal through countries reporting the new variant have to be provisioned of compulsorily staying in a quarantine facility.
Though the variant has not yet been reported in Nepal, it is stated that there is a high probability of the variant transporting to Nepal, thanks to the open border to India and poor vigil system to track the passengers from the countries where the new variant has been reported.
