Kathmandu, Nepal, March 16, 2021: The possibilities to change in the incumbent CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli-led government are getting slim thanks to the indecision of the parties including the opposition parties- the Nepali Congress (NC) and the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) to form a coalition government with the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center).
As the dissident faction of the ruling CPN UML led by former Prime Minister Duo Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal failed to clear its position in the party, the Maoist Center has not dared even to withdraw its support to the government even though the verdict from the Supreme Court (SC) has already invalidated the unification of the erstwhile ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP).
Incumbent Oli-led government would remain intact until the opposition parties and the Maoist Center agree to form a coalition government. As the Maoist Center has been waiting the decision of the dissident faction of the UML believing that it would split the party even if it failed to remove Oli from the post of Prime Minister and party chair through the majority votes, it has failed even to take decision whether to register no-confidence motion in the parliament against of the incumbent Oli-led government nor withdraw support.
As Oli deserves majority strength in the parliamentary and the sole chair of the party, the dissident faction can do nothing to remove Oli except split in the party on the basis of majorities in the Central Committee. However, split in the UML does not seem easy as moist of the leaders even from the dissident group wants to stick in the party with election symbol sun.
Even though the Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been consulting with us to form a coalition government, no decision is made yet due to his dual attitude and confusing mindset ont only over the issue of forming a coalition government but to keep the existence of his own party, said a NC leader.
During the meeting with president Sher Bahadur Deuba, he was suggested to come up only after clearing its position in the government. Likewise, the JSP leaders have also forwarded conditions including the amendment in the constitution to form coalition government with the Maoist Center.
As the Maoist Centre also wants to merge the party at again with the ruling UML, there is no meaning to discuss regarding the formation of the coalition government, a leader of the JSP said. It is said that both the NC and the JSP had suggested the Maoist center to come up with clear cut position by Monday considering to the scheduled meeting of the parliament on Tuesday.
