Kathmandu, Nepal: The major three parties- Nepali Congress, CPN UML and the CPN Maoist Center have claimed that they have come closer to consensus to hold the local bodies’ elections.

In the meeting called by the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at his office on Wednesday, the top leaders of the major three parties had agreed to hold local bodies’ elections within the stipulated time frame.

The major three parties have agreed over the issue of local bodies’ election in the mean time when there was also a speculation that political parties would agree to hold local level election in existing (old) structures.

Tough the government allies – Nepali Congress and the Maoist Center floated the idea to hold the local level election in existing structures in case of delay to finalize the number and demarcation of local units, the main opposition party UML had remanded adamant to hold the local bodies’ election on new structure.

The UML had a demand that local bodies’ election should be held in new structures as Local Bodies Restructuring Commission (LBRC) has already prepared its report.'There is no need to be confused over the local units under the new structures as the LBRC has already prepared its report,  CPN UML’s vice chairman Bhim Bahadur Rawal, who was present in the meeting, said.

Though the major three have claimed for reaching on nearer to consensus, it is unlikely to hold the local bodies’ election on time as the Madhes based parties have already protested the LBRC report.

The agitating Madhes based parties have also challenged the government to obstruction the polls in Teria if their demands are not addressed through the amendment of the constitution.
