Guwahati : Another mob lynching incident has come to light in Assam, as a 50-year-old man was beaten to death on suspicion of being a cattle thief in northern Assam’s Biswanath district in the wee hours of August 15.

The horrific incident took place at Diplonga area near Sootea in the northern Assam district, where a group of men had attacked four persons with iron rods, lathi, sharp weapons on suspicion of being cattle thieves.

According to the reports, four persons went to Diplonga area to procure pigs for selling in the market.

When the four persons reached at the area in the wee hours of Wednesday, a mob had attacked them and also damaged the auto van used by the persons.

The locals had attacked the persons on suspicion of being cattle thieves.

The mob had attacked the persons with lathi, iron rods and other sharp weapons.

During the attack, one person identified as Deben Rajbongshi died on the spot.

Three other persons identified as Phulchand Shah, Bijay Nayak and Pujen Rajbongshi were severely injured in the attack and they are now under medical supervision.

In the video, the victims said that, they had come to the area to procure pigs, but some locals questioned them – did Muslim people procure pig?

“Do you sell pig,” one among the mob asked question to one victim.

A relative of one victim said that, they are selling pig in market.

“They (victims) went to the Diplonga area at around 3-30 am to procure pig. But some locals attacked them while some people known them very well. The victims requested the mob to spare them. One person died on spot,” relative of a victim said.

Meanwhile, police have started investigation into the incident.

It is to be mentioned that, on June 8 last, two youths from Guwahati were beaten to death by a mob in the name of child traffickers at Panjuri village under Dokmoka police station in Karbi Anglong district.
