 Kathmandu, Nepal, November 28, 2022: The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) of the US government has entered in the implementing phase. The Nepal-based agency of the MCC has announced a global tender to construct 315 km long transmission lines.


The MCC Nepal has invited sealed bids from all interested eligible bidders for design, supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of the transmission line. As per the notice, a 400 kV transmission line will be constructed along Lapsiphedi-Ratamate-New Hetauda stretch measuring 117 km. 

Similarly, a 90 km long 400 kV transmission line in Ratamate-Damauli and New Damauli-New Butwal segment will also be expedited under the project. The MCA-N has set a deadline of March 27, 2023 to apply for the contract.  

In the notice, it is stated that bidding will be conducted through the Quality and Price Based Selection (QPBS) procedures as specified in the MCC Program Procurement Guidelines (PPG), and is open to all eligible bidders or consultants as defined in the PPG.

A complete set of bidding documents may be obtained by interested eligible bidders upon the submission of a written application at the following email address [email protected] with cc to [email protected].  March 27 is the deadline for submitting the bidding documents, reads the notice.

All bids shall be accompanied by a Bid Security in the amount of US$700,000 for Lot 1, US$550,000 for Lot 2 and US$675,000 for Lot 3 and if issued by a bank located outside of Nepal, must be confirmed (counter bank guarantee to be issued) by a correspondent financial institution located in Nepal and shall be valid until 20 December 2023, the notice has stated further.

The MCC project amounting of US $500 million grant from the US government, has made a plan to construct high-powered transmission lines and upgrade of highways. The government of Nepal is also investing $130 million to implement the project.
