Kathmandu, Nepal, February 8, 2022: The government has decided to table the US-funded Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact Agreement at the parliament on February 9.

The government has also informed Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Agni Prasad Sapkota about the government’s decision even urging him to make necessary preparations to table the agreement in the parliament.

Though the decision was taken from the cabinet, it is kept secret, thanks to the division and among the ruling allies over the issue of endorsing the MCC agreement from the ongoing session of the parliament.

The government has decided to table the MCC agreement at the parliament seeking parliamentary ratifications at the time when major allies of the incumbent government-CPN (Maoist Center) and the CPN (United Socialist) had been demanding to linger the ratification process for at least until the next elections.

Issuing a statement, the Maoist Center had stated on Sunday that the MCC would not be endorsed from parliament sans amendment in some points and national consensus. However, it has stated nothing about the cabinet decision to table the MCC agreement in the parliament.
