Guwahati, Sep 19 : Lack of proper infrastructure, students of four revenue villages in central Assam’s Nagaon district have been forced to cross a river every day to reach schools.
With absence of proper connectivity or bridge, the students of Palashabari, Tetelisara area in the central Assam’s district have been forced to cross the Kapili river to reach their schools.
The students of these areas have taken risks by crossing the river to reach their schools.
It is a regular scene in the area that, students and locals crossed the river by using small boats to reach on the other side since past several decades.
It becomes extremely difficult for the students of the area to cross the river during monsoon season.
Sometimes, some students were fell from the boat when they crossing the river.
According to the reports, around 3000 families are living in the Palashabari, Tetelisara area under Barhampur assembly constituency and they are facing lot of problems for lack proper connectivity.
A student of Palashabari Lalit Chandra Nath Middle English School said that, they are facing lot of problems to reach their school.
“In past three years, we crossed the river by using boat to reach our school. We are scared when crossing the river and sometimes we fell into the river. It is difficult for us to cross the river during the rainy season,” the student said.
The locals too demanded the government many occasions to build a bridge on the river so that, the students can go their schools on a regular basis without taking any risks, but they are yet to get proper connectivity.
Tulsi Nath, a boatman of Palashabari area said that, it is very unfortunate that, the students of the school (Palashabari Lalit Chandra Nath Middle English School) have been forced to cross the river in past 28 years.
“The students have missed to attend their classes during the monsoon and flood season. Around 4000 families are living in this area. There are three schools, two health centres in the area and the people are facing lot of problems,” Tulsi Nath said.
“I served here (in the school) in past 28 years. A bridge is urgently needed. There are four revenue villages in the Palashabari area and all students of the area studying in this school. We are using small boats to cross the river,” Tagar Nath, Headmaster of Palashabari Lalit Chandra Nath Middle English School said.
