Kathmandu, Nepal: The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu has strongly denied rumors circulating on Nepali social media claiming that a Chinese national attempted to bribe journalists from several Nepali media outlets to publish negative reports against certain Nepali politicians.
Responding to media queries regarding the allegations, the Chinese side described the claims as “deeply shocking” and “completely baseless,” firmly rejecting any suggestion of Chinese involvement in attempts to influence Nepal’s media or political environment.
According to the statement, China condemned what it described as a “deliberate attempt to denigrate” the country and damage the long-standing relationship between Nepal and China.
The statement further emphasized that China has consistently adhered to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, including Nepal. It added that China has continuously supported Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, political stability, economic development, and the improvement of people’s livelihoods.
Amid growing discussion and speculation on social media, the Chinese side urged the relevant Nepali authorities to conduct a “serious, in-depth, and thorough investigation” into the rumors and identify those directly involved, as well as individuals responsible for spreading misinformation.
The statement also said that anyone found guilty under Nepali law should face strict legal action. In addition, China expressed its readiness to strengthen law enforcement and security cooperation with Nepal in order to safeguard the shared interests of both countries.
The issue has drawn significant attention across social media platforms in Nepal, where unverified claims and political speculation have fueled public debate in recent days. However, no official evidence supporting the allegations has been publicly presented so far.
Observers say the controversy highlights the growing influence of social media narratives in shaping political discourse and public perception, particularly in a sensitive geopolitical environment where Nepal maintains close diplomatic and economic ties with neighboring China.
Concluding its remarks, the Chinese side called for “reason and wisdom” to prevail over rumors and misinformation. It also expressed confidence that the Nepali people would distinguish facts from falsehoods and continue contributing to the strengthening of Nepal-China friendship and cooperation.
