Kathmandu, Nepal, March 2, 2021:  Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Parbat Gurung has said that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli could not resign from the post as per the constitutional provision and Supreme Court (SC) order.

Prime Minister Oli has no other constitutional option except running the government, Minister Gurung, who is also the government spokesperson, said during a regular press conference organized at the Ministry to make public the government’s decision on Monday.

‘The SC verdict to reinstate the HoR itself does not allow the Prime Minister Oli to resign,’ Minister Gurung said adding that there is no other constitutional alternative before the Prime Minister except running the government and state. The government will move ahead implementing SC's decision, he said.

Following the SC order to reinstate the dissolved House of Representatives (HoR), it was believed that Prime Minister Oli would tender his resignation on moral ground. Terming the government’s decision to dissolve the HoR as unconstitutional move, the SC had ordered to reinstate.

Though some leaders from his own faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) had been suggesting him to resign, he is denying so but challenging the rival faction led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal to ousts him through the no-confidence motion in the parliament.
