Kathmandu, Nepal: Responding to the widespread criticism for the indecision against of the preparations of the government to bring the budget in between the local level elections, the Election Commission (EC) has on Saturday made its view public that bringing an annual policy, program and budget in-between the local poll will be against the election code of conduct.
A meeting of the EC office bearers on Saturday made the decision to draw the attention of the government against the preparations to bring an annual policy, program and budget in-between the local poll.
As per the constitutional provision the government has to present annual budget on Jestha 15 or May 29, just a day after the first phase of elections scheduled for May 14.As second phase of election is set for June 14, the provision bars the government to bring the budget.
Election code of conduct does not allow the government to bring the budget in-between the two phase of elections even though the constitutional provision was amended.
