Guwahati, July 24 : Ongoing deadlock in Manipur University which halted the academic activities in the higher education institution for last 55 days had rocked both inside and outside of Manipur assembly on Monday.

Amidst demands to oust the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, leaders-members of Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) had tried to disrupt the monsoon session of Manipur assembly after hundreds of students marched towards to the assembly.

Police personnel had resorted lathi charge and used smoke bombs, tear gas shells to foil the attempts of the students.

At least eight students were injured during the clash between students and security personnel.

The district administration had imposed section 144 in and around the assembly complex and a large number of police personnel, commandos were deployed to maintain law and order situation.

Earlier, the MUSU and other students organisation had threaten to storm the assembly complex by demanding various issues including removal of Manipur University Vice Chancellor Prof Adya Prasad Pandey.

The MUSU has continued their agitations by demanding to oust the Vice Chancellor following allegations of financial irregularities and administrative negligence.

On the other hand, the Manipur University issue was also raised inside of the Manipur assembly.

Opposition Congress MLAs K Govindas and K Ranjit had plead the assembly speaker to discuss the issue, but the speaker denied the plea.

On the other hand, the Joint Tribal Student Bodies, Manipur on Monday announced that the blockade on National Highways - Jiribam-Imphal, Moreh-Imphal and Dimapur-Imphal will continue.

The Joint Tribal Student Bodies, Manipur has demanded to oust the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University.

The tribal student body said in a statement that, the blockade on National Highways - Jiribam-Imphal, Moreh-Imphal and Dimapur-Imphal will continue, but suspended the indefinite hill bandh.

On the other hand, the Joint College Students’ Forum on Tuesday had stormed Manipur CM’s secretariat and demanding to declare examination results.
