Kathmandu, January 25, 2020: The Election Commission (EC) has decided to recognize the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) with chairmen duo KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal nullifying the legitimacy claim made by the rival factions of the party.
Though the ruling party politically divided into two factions-one led by Oli and another led by Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal-but they have to remain united legally and technically until and unless they register new parties.
The EC has paved the way to register new party even living a secret message for the reconciliation. However, both the possibilities seem unfeasible.
Following the dissolution of the parliament on December 22, rival factions of the party had called their central committee meeting to take decisions against each others.
The Dahal-Nepal led faction had removed Oli from the post of chairman and picked Madhav Kumar Nepal in his place. Interestingly, the faction has decided to strip Oli of even the party’s general membership on Sunday.
Similarly, the Oli-led faction had decided to expand the Central Committee to 1,199 from 445. The decision to expansion in the central committee was submitted to the EC to claim the legitimacy of the party.
However, Dahal- Nepal led faction has a claim that they command the majority in the party’s Secretariat, Standing Committee and Central Committee.
