Kathmandu, Nepal : Following the call of the President Bidya Devi Bhandari, political parties particularly the Nepali Congress, the largest party in the parliament, has initiated inter and intra party consultation to form a consensus government.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has on Thursday called on the political parties represented in the Legislature-Parliament to pick a new prime minister through political consensus within seven.
The President had made the call as per the Constitutional provision that the president has to call the parties to form a consensus government before calling the majority government.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had tendered his resignation on Wednesday.
Article 298 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal has provisioned for the consensus government.
Article 298 (3) of the constitution has also provisioned for the majority government if the parties fail to pick a consensus candidate for the post of prime minister in seven days.
Being the largest party in the parliament, the Nepali Congress has initiated consultation with various parties including the main opposition party CPN UML to form a consensus government under its chairman asher Bahadur Deuba.
