Kathmandu, Nepal: The Government of Nepal decided to sign the memorandum of understanding on One Belt, One Road’ (OBOR) initiative initiated by northern neighbor China.

A meeting of the Cabinet on Monday decided to be a part of China’s ambitious plan that aims at enhancing connectivity and cooperation between China and the rest of Asian and European countries through land and naval routes.

According to Surendra Bahadur Kark, the spokesperson of the Nepal government, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Krishna Bahadur Mahara led Nepali delegation will fly to China on May 12 to sign the MoU.

Neighboring China had sent a draft proposal on OBOR to Nepal late last year seeking Nepal’s commitment over the initiatives. Following the intensive consultations among the concerned stake holders, Nepal had also sent back the draft to China showing its positive gesture to be a part of the initiatives. But Nepal had not made any decisions, thanks to the political turmoil in the country.

It was expected that the MoU would be signed on during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s recent visit to China in March. But it was no happened as his Chinese counterpart had already left the country at the time when Prime Minister Dahal was there.
