Kathmandu, Nepal: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has on Thursday directed the Chief Election Commission (CEC) and Commissioners at the Election Commission (EC) to expedite preparations for the May 14 local level elections in all 744 local units.
During a meeting with commissioners including the CEC Dr. Ayodhi Prasad Yadav at latter’s official residence, Baluwatar, Prime Minister assured every support on behalf of the Nepal government to hold the local elections on the scheduled date.
‘The government is working to create an environment conducive to hold the election in a peaceful manner,’ Prime Minister Dahal said as government is in point of no return in conducting the elections the EC should also work to that effect.
As commissioners expressed concerns about the possible security threat in the Terai districts particularly in the Province No. 2, seeking commitment from the government side to tighten the security situation in the province, Prime Minister Dahal said there is no point to backtrack from holding elections in all 744 local units.
People were already excited for the polls and all authorities and stakeholders should be united to make the elections a success, Prime Minister Dahal said expressing his optimism that the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) would participate in the local level elections.
