Guwahati : While Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi defended the National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise in Assam and said that, it is a base document for the future, Assam government has rejected the NRC which was published on August 31.
Assam Forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya said that – "This NRC is not a correct NRC and we can't accept it."
"Every citizen of Assam wanted a correct NRC. But after published the final NRC, we have noticed that, several genuine citizens name were not included and some suspected person name were appeared in the list. The declared foreigner names were also included in the list. Some people who have the documents of 1951 NRC, their name were also missing," Suklabaidya said.
The Assam Forest minister further said that – "We want have a correct NRC on which people can depend. This will be the future document, when all the correct documents in the boundary of your house will be available with you and it will be your family document, generation document. If there is no segregation of your boundary, then will it be a document of your family? If this NRC is a correct NRC in reality, then it's ok. But there is a question on this NRC."
CJI Ranjan Gogoi on Sunday said in New Delhi that – "It is a base document for the future. It is a document to which one can refer to determine future claims. This in my comprehension is intrinsic value of the NRC."
Over 19 lakh people were left out from the final NRC.
Earlier, Assam Finance minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that – "BJP does not accept the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the party will tell the Supreme Court that it rejects theNRC."
