Kathmandu, Nepal: The Supreme Court (SC), the apex Court of the country, has directed again the government to furnish records related to the appointment of Lok Man Singh Karki as the Chief of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) within seven days.

A division bench of Chief Justice Sushila Karki, Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha and Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla made the ordered on Friday stating that the clarification of last week made by the government regarding the records related to the appointment of CIAA chief Karki was irresponsible from the part of the government.

Responding to the earlier verdict of the SC, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers had written to the apex court that the papers related to the appointment of CIAA chief Karki could not be found.

In the letter, the Office had also mentioned that the papers related to the appointment of Karki would have misplaced while shifting the office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers after the 2015 earthquake.

The claim of the government was also highly criticized in the different social media as well. Interestingly, not only the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers but also the Ministry of General Administration had written similar type of letter to the SC stating that the papers related to the action against Karki was also missing.

With the directives, the apex court has also warned to the Nepal government that action would be taken against the government as per Section 34(2) of the Judicial Administration Act, 2016 if the government could not furnish the court with the documents by then.

Challenging to the appointment of Karkki as the CIAA chief advocate Om Prakash Aryal had moved to the court claiming that Karki was not eligible to be the CIAA chief as he was accused of corruption and held responsible for suppression during the Janaandolan II during the royal regime.  Karki was the Chief Secretary during the Royal regime.

Earlier, on August 26, the division bench of SC justice Deepak Karki, Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha and Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada had also directed the government to forge the documents related to the appointment of Karki as the CIAA chief.
