Kathmandu, Nepal: The Supreme Court (SC) the Apex Court of the country has on Friday issued an interim order to the government not to implement the decision to increase the number of local units.

Responding to the writ petition filed by Dhan Bahadur Shrestha, a division bench of Justices Ishwar Khatiwada and Sapana Malla Pradhan ordered the government to put the government decision on hold.

The SC has stated in the order that the Article 295 of the constitution envisage a commission for fixing the number of local units.  The order has indirectly hinted that the government has no authorities to fix the number of local units.

Following the government decision to increase 22 local units in Terai districts, a notice was published on the Gazette to formalize the decision.
