Kathmandu, Nepal, May 21, 2021: Two separate claims have been registered at the office of the President, Sital Niwas, to form a new government on Friday. 

Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN UML chairman KP Sharma Oli, who is also the incumbent Prime Minister; have claimed the leadership of the new government.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari had on Thursday evening issued a notice urging the political parties to stake claim for the new government as per the article 76(5) of the constitution. As both claims have been made within given 5:00 deadline, all eyes are now concentrated at the office of the President. 

It is said that Oli has claimed again for the new government claiming that  he is backed 153 lawmakers-121 from his own party, CPN UML, and 32 from the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP). 

Likewise, Nepali Congress President Deuba has claimed the post with the sign of 149 lawmakers. Lawmakers of the Nepali Congress, CPN Maoist Center, a faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party led by Upendra Yadav and the lawmakers from the dissident faction of the ruling UML led by Madhav Kumar Nepal have signed in the claim.
