Kathmandu, Nepal: Christmas Day is being observed in Nepal as well on Sunday with various programmes. Christmas Day is used to observe on December 25 to mark the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ.
Not only the Christian communities but also the people in general particularly the young generation observe the Christmas Day with much more fanfare.
The government has announced public holyday on the occasion of Christmas Day on Sunday.
Special functions are being organized in different parts of the country particularly in touristic hobs like Thamel of Kathmandu, Jamsikhel of Lalitpur, and Durbar square area of Bhaktapur and lakeside of touristic city Pokhara.
Colorfully decorated Christmas trees and other decorations are made at shopping malls, hotels, restaurants and in the streets in different parts of the cities to make special the Christmas Day.
It is believed that Jesus Christ was born to Lady Maryam for the rescue of human beings. It is also believed that Jesus Christ sacrificed himself to liberate people from injustice, excesses and discrimination.
Though celebrations of Christmas Day Christmas have a long history in Nepal, Christmas Day is used to mark as the national day after Nepal was declared as the secular state.
