Kathmandu, Nepal, October 6, 2020: Alleging the government as ignorant to the demand raised by agitating senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC, the residential doctors of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Maharajgunj held a protest rally in Kathmandu on Monday.

The residential doctors took to streets and marched up to the main road at Maharajgunj from TUTH expressing solidarity with the hunger strike of Dr. KC sending-off the treatments of the patients at the hospital.

The agitating doctors have vowed during the protest that they would continue such protests to exert pressure on the government to fulfill the genuine demands raised by agitating Dr KC. As the doctors begun to strike, it is feared that the heath facilities would be affected in coming days.

As the hunger strike launched by Dr. KC crossed 22 days mark on Monday, his heath conditions is said to have badly deteriorated. However, neither the government has responded nor any agencies have approached to him to end his hunger strike even though most of the demands raised by Dr. KC were already agreed by the government.

Doctors involved in his treatment have stated that Dr KC’s health is deteriorating every day and he hasn’t been able to speak since Friday evening. According to the doctors, Dr KC is having chest pain and he has been put on oxygen support.

Dr KC has begun his 19th round of hunger strike seeking reforms in Nepal’s medical education sectors. He had launched the fresh striking from Jumla alleging the government for failing to honor the past agreements reached with him to bring reform in the medical sectors.

Similarly, Sajha Party has expressed concern over the government’s unwillingness to address the demands of Dr KC. Issuing a press statement on Monday the Sajha Party has urged the government to address the demands raised by Dr KC and implement the past agreements.
