Kathmandu, Nepal: Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Kamal Thapa has said that the scheduled local level elections will not be postponed even if the agitating Federal Alliance (FA) stays away of the elections.
Speaking at an interaction program in Kathmanud of Friday, Thapa, who is also the chairman of the fourth largest party Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), said the government will not step back from its commitment to hold local elections within the scheduled time frame.
During the function he also made clear that the local level elections will be held in the single phase on May 14 even if the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front boycotts it.
The Constitution amendment bill was registered in the Parliament with the aim to convince the FA as the government wants to address the genuine grievances of the agitating UDMF, but there is no possibility of postponing the elections at any cost, he said.
