Kathmandu, Nepal, October 20, 2020: Govt. Responding the spiking cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) infections across the country including in Kathmandu valley, the government has given additional powers to Chief District Officers (CDOs) to take necessary steps to contain the virus.
According to Minister for Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung, who has also taken charge as the government’s spokesperson, CDOs of all the districts are given powers to regulate, manage and control inter-district vehicular movement in the district.
With the decision, the CDOs can suspend any works or services in the entire district or in parts of the district if the concerned district has more than 500 active coronavirus cases.
The government has made the decision at the time when there is a speculation that prohibitory order or lockdown would be imposed at again to contain the spreading cases of coronavirus.
During the press briefing organized to make public the cabinet decision, spokesperson Gurung also said on Monday that the government has decided to develop the existing quarantine facilities as isolation centers in view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases across the country including in Kathmandu Valley within 15 days.
The Ministry of Health Population (MoHP) will develop the quarantine facilities within 15 days in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) spokesperson Gurung said.
