Kathmandu, Nepal, July 18, 2021: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has garnered vote of confidence from the parliament on Sunday.
165 lawmakers of the House of Representatives (HoR) representing to the Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), Rastriya Janamorcha and 22 lawmakers of Madhav Kumar Nepal led faction of the CPN UML voted in favor of Deuba.
Though the CPN UML had officially decided not to vote in favor of Deuba, lawmakers from dissident faction of the UML voted in favor of Deuba going against the party decision. It is said that eight lawmakers aligned earlier in the party chairman KP Oli led camp have also voted to Deuba.
According to the Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota only 83 lawmakers out of 249 lawmakers present in the meeting voted against the vote of confidence motion put forth by Prime Minister Deuba.
With the winning of vote of confidence, incumbent Nepali Congress president Deuba led government will remain at least one and half year until the next elections.
