Kathmandu, Nepal Feb 20, 2026 : Energy is high and ideas are flowing as young innovators gather in Kathmandu for the U.S.–Nepal Startup Weekend Challenge.
At the launch event, Scott Urbom, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy Kathmandu, joined aspiring entrepreneurs and mentors to mark the start of the three-day accelerator-style program (February 19–21). The event is organized in partnership with One to Watch.
More than just a formal program, the Startup Weekend Challenge provides a space where young Nepalis can turn ideas into action. Utilizing U.S.-tested startup methodologies, participants are learning to define real-world problems, test solutions, and build Minimum Viable Products (MVPs)—practical skills essential for transforming concepts into viable businesses.
Addressing the participants, Urbom encouraged the youth to view innovation not only as a business opportunity but as a way to strengthen communities and build resilient economies. He emphasized that collaboration between Nepali founders and American mentors, companies, and investors can open doors to long-term growth and shared success.
A highlight of the opening session was a product strategy workshop led by U.S. tech leader John B. Park. Park walked participants through the fundamentals of startup development, from identifying the right problem to solving it effectively through tested prototypes.
Urbom underscored that sharing American expertise in technology and entrepreneurship reflects the global strength of U.S. innovation. Such exchanges, he noted, help build lasting partnerships that benefit both Nepal and the United States.
As teams refine their ideas over the remainder of the challenge, the event signals growing momentum in Nepal’s startup ecosystem—driven by the creativity, ambition, and determination of its young innovators.
