Guwahati : The Assam forest department had seized 21 trucks with illegal Burmese supari (betel nut) in Assam's Dima Hasao district.
The forest department personnel had seized the trucks with illegal Burmese supari at Harangajao and Jatinga area near Haflong with the help of local people on Wednesday.
According to the reports, the Burmese supari have been illegally transported from Myanmar to the different parts of the country.
The seized supari-laden trucks were coming from Hailakandi to Amingaon in Guwahati.
The forest department personnel had launched operations at the two locations of the hill district with the help of local villagers and seized the trucks illegally carrying the Burmese supari.
A driver of a seized truck said that, the trucks carrying supari have been coming from Hailakandi towards to Guwahati.
On the other hand, a local villager of Jatinga area said that, some corrupt police officials, political leaders have involved in the illegal trade of Burmese supari.
