Kohima (Nagaland) /Ampati (Meghalaya), May 28 : Voting is under way at polling stations for Nagaland Lok Sabha and Ampati assembly constituency by polls.
44 percent polling is recorded in Nagaland Lok Sabha seat and 40 percent recorded in Ampati assembly seat till 11 am as polling starts from 7 am.
Voters and polling officials have a tough time fighting the scorching sun in Ampati and some parts of Nagaland.
Meanwhile, there is no report of any untoward situation create in Nagaland and Ampati.
Over 11.97 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in the Lok Sabha by election in Nagaland.
The by-election for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland was necessitated after NDPP leader and present Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio had resigned as a Lok Sabha member on February 16 last.
The People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) led by Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has fielded former minister Tokheho Yepthomi as the candidate while NPF fielded C Apok Jamir.
On the other hand, over 28,000 voters will exercise their franchise in the Ampati assembly seat by poll.
The by poll to Ampati was necessitated after Mukul Sangma had decided to leave the Ampati seat and Congress’s number came down to 20.
In this by poll, Congress has fielded Mukul Sangma’s daughter Miani D Shira as the candidate, who is contesting her first ever elections.
On the other hand, ruling National People’s Party (NPP) has fielded Clement G Momin as the candidate.
