Guwahati : Assam becomes a transit route for illegal gold trade from neighbouring countries to various places in India.
The CISF personnel on Friday had three persons and recovered huge quantity of gold biscuits at two airports in Assam where as the persons known as rectum carrier are trying to carry the gold biscuits to Delhi.
According to the reports, the CISF personnel had arrested one person at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati and recovered 6 gold biscuits.
The arrested person identified as Ankush Soni hailing from Rajasthan had carried 990 gram gold in his rectum.
Value of the recovered gold is estimated Rs 30 lakh.
The person is trying to carry the gold to Delhi by an Indigo flight from Guwahati.
Later, the arrested person and recovery gold were handed over to Customs department.
On the other hand, the CISF personnel had arrested two other persons at Rowriah Airport in upper Assam’s Jorhat district and recovered 14 gold biscuits.
A top official of Customs department said that, during the routine check up the CISF personnel had detected the person due and recovered the gold biscuits.
“They are rectum carrier and one person carrying 6 gold biscuits in two packets and another person carrying 8 gold biscuits in two packets,” the Customs official said.
The arrested persons were identified as Pawan Kumar and Surender Singh and they are trying to carry the gold biscuits to Delhi by a Jet Airways flight.
Earlier, the CISF personnel had caught two persons with rectum carrier of gold at the international airport in Guwahati last week and recovered 1.650 kg gold.
