Guwahati : Aiming at qualitative improvement of primary education in the state, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed the MLAs of eight districts where 'Gunotsav' is to be implemented in first phase to initiate steps for developing ten schools at par with Model school in their constituencies.
 
Addressing the MLAs of Barpeta, Chirang, Dibrugarh, Hailakandi, Kamrup (Metro), Lakhimpur, Morigaon and West Karbi Anglong in an orientation programme of 'Gunotsav' held on Wednesday in the chief minister's conference hall at Janata Bhawan, Sonowal stated that such a initiative would be a major contribution of the MLAs for ensuring quality in elementary education and improvement of children's learning outcomes.
 
Stating that quality citizens are the foundation of a developed society, the Assam CM stressed on the need to imbibe moral values among students at school level. 
 
'In today's competitive world, only talent matters and the school education must strive hard to harness the potential of the students to make them better human being,' Sonowal said. 
 
Adding that the teaching fraternity should work with a devoted mind to educate the students, Sonowal urged the MLAs to motivate the teachers in order to boost up their dedication for service. 
 
Saying that society as a whole would have to carry the burden of guilt for every student who is drifted away, Sonowal mentioned that involvement of MLAs in a noble venture like Gunotsav would pave the way for quality academic environment. 
 
The programme of Gunotsav to be conducted from April 4-7, 2017 will cover 9,11,588 children of 12,320 schools of eight districts of the state in the first phase. 
 
It is expected that learning gap of each of the students in studying in primary schools will be properly assessed, reading, writing and numerical ability of students will be improved apart from generating awareness among teachers, students, administrators, communities and stakeholders for quality education by this ambitious project of the education department.
 
'Chief Minister's Media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami, Legal Avdiser Santanu Bharali, Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam VK Pipersenia, MLAs of eight districts where this programme is to be implemented in first phase were present in today's orientation programme.
