Guwahati, July 23 : An Assam Congress MLA, belonging to the tea tribe community is known in Assam as a news maker MLA by his uncommon activities.

Sometimes, the Congress MLA seen as he engaged himself as a labourer, a farmer as ploughing at paddy field with cow.

Rupjyoti Kurmi, a Congress MLA, son of former Assam cabinet minister Rupam Kurmi recently seen that, he went down on his knees before some patients of a government run hospital in his constituency Mariani in upper Assam’s Jorhat district.

The video went viral in social media also, but the question raised that, why the Congress MLA went down on his knees before some people.

The incident was happened at Mahatma Gandhi Model Hospital located at Nakachari area under Mariani assembly constituency along with Assam-Nagaland border.

The fact that, the Congress MLA went down on his knees before some patients of the government run hospital and apologized for failure to provide
sufficient health service to the patients from the hospital.

Rupjyoti Kurmi is also the president of the hospital management committee and he realized that, the people of the remote bordering area have not received proper service from the government run hospital.

The Congress MLA said that, the state government had appointed eight doctors in the model hospital, but none of them were present in the hospital while he visited.

“The patients have faced lots of problem since long period. Earlier, I had filed complaint before the health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding doctors absence matter and the minister informed me that, the department had decided to cut a day salary for absence on duty. But the situation hasn’t changed,” Rupjyoti Kurmi said.

On the other hand, Assam’s opposition MLA of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Anwar Hussain Laskar, who representing Hailakandi assembly constituency alleged that, the present BJP-led Assam government has totally failed to provide health service to the people of rural areas in the state.

“No doctor in the hospital of rural areas in the state. Today Rupjyoti Kurmi apologized, tomorrow I will. We are being abused from the public,” the AIUDF MLA said.

The AIUDF MLA also said that, the both BJP-led centre and state government have cheated the public.

Reacting over the Assam Congress MLA’s act, ruling BJP MLA Kishor Nath, representing the Borkhala assembly constituency refuted all allegations made against the state government and said that, the Congress MLA doing the act for taking political mileage and the BJP MLA said that, this is only a drama.

“Previous Congress government had damaged the health sector in Assam and the present BJP-led government is now trying to restore it. There are lots of model hospitals in the state which were lying non-funtional during the previous government, but these hospitals began functional after our government came to power,” the BJP MLA said.

It is to be mentioned that, the Assam-Nagaland bordering areas are known as Japanese Encephalitis epidemic area and several people died in every year.
