Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam has improved after the water levels in the flood-hit areas are receded, but over 27 lakh people of 17 districts in the state are still affected in the current flood.
With five more deaths, total death toll mounted to 83 so far.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), two people drowned in flood waters in Baksa district while one each died in Barpeta, Cachar and Biswanath district in past 24 hours.
2078 villages in 61 revenue circles and 1,22,835 hectares of crop land are still under water.
Presently, 768 numbers of relief camps are operational in the districts of Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat and Jorhat districts with 1,58,896 inmates and 161 Relief Distribution Centres in the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Kamrup and Morigaon.
